As we approached the cardiology floor, I sensed the students’ stress with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. Their crisp white lab coats fluttered as they walked down the hall and their newly purchased stethoscopes were worn with pride, albeit with a little uncertainty. After all, this was their first foray into clinical medicine after six month of classroom work, , seeing real live patients with health problems. As their tutor, my role was to introduce pairs of my students, all first-year meds, to interview patients briefly about their story, how they came to be in hospital. and their overall experience. After about 30 minutes, I would join the discussion with the patient, get feed back and meet later with all the students to debrief.
