Editor's Note, Volume 14 Issue 3

D’Arcy Little, MD, CCFP, FCFP, FRCPC Medical Director, JCCC and HealthPlexus.NET

We are pleased to present the next edition of the Journal of Current Clinical Care, which features a collection of articles on important clinical topics across various specialities. Our aim is to provide you with practical insights and updates that can enhance your clinical practice.

In this edition, we have articles that cover Back Health, Dermatology, Dementia and Ethics.

The Back Health CME Resource article, written by Dr. Arani Kulamurugan et al., focuses on Back and Neck Pain, Pain Clinics and Interventional Pain Management in Canada. The paper examines the role of pain clinics in Canada, focusing on non-surgical interventions to manage cervical and lumbar degenerative pathologies. These pathologies have a substantial impact on health care and the economy. Given the challenges of access and long wait times for treatment, the expansion of pain clinics may be an interim solution to improve outcomes and alleviate the burden on Canadian healthcare.

In the Dermatology Resource article, Dr. Joseph Lam and Ou Jia (Emilie) Wang explore Pediatric Scabies. Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. It causes intense itching in infected individuals. This infection is highly contagious and is transmitted through direct and prolonged skin-to-skin contact. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent complications and transmission to others.

In his Dementia article, Dr. Michael Gordon presents The Future Approach to Dementia Prevention: Beyond Medications, and in his Ethics article Dr. Gordon examines Why is the Brain Like a Pickle?

We also want to highlight four podcasts in this edition, which we hope you find interesting and informative. Dr. Marina Malak presents her ‘Approach to Fatty Liver’ series with her 3P: Pills, Pearls, and Patients podcast, and Dr. Michael Gordon’s Medical Narratives podcast offers insights on ‘Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)’. Dr. D’Arcy Little’s Inside Radiology: A Primary Care Perspective offers Cases in Paediatric Radiology and Dr. Alykhan Abdulla’s Med Talks: Beyond the White Coat presents an Interview with Dr. Catherine Pound.

We hope you find this edition informative and valuable in your clinical practice. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions.
